Show Your Support For The O-Os
Show Your Support For The O-Os
To the Editor:
Here is a simple, effective way for Newtown residents to show support for Newtownâs owner-operator bus drivers: tie a yellow ribbon to your car â to the antenna, or the mirror, or anywhere. Let it stand for the clear preference of the majority in this town that we intend to keep the current owner-operator system and immediately slow down and then reverse the actions of the Board of Education. Election time is coming. The contract is not yet finalized. This decision can be reversed, but we must make our voices heard and bring significant pressure to bear.
Next week I hope to see these pages overflowing with letters from those who will be most affected if we lose our current system â the students themselves.
After you read this, find a yellow ribbon or a yellow sock or cloth and tie it to your car. Do it today. Students, tie one to your backpack, too, and let your voice be heard.
As writer Sydney Smith says, âIt is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little.â
