Public Documentary Screening Of 'One Revolution' Scheduled
Public Documentary Screening Of âOne Revolutionâ Scheduled
Through the efforts of the Newtown Middle School and Reed Intermediate Schoolâs PTA Cultural Arts Committees, a public screening of One Revolution, a documentary about a Paralympic athlete who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, has been scheduled for Tuesday, September 27, from 7 to 9 pm, at Newtown High Schoolâs auditorium.
The screening will coincide with presentations, called NameTags, at Newtown Middle School and Reed Intermediate school next week. Athlete Chris Waddell, the subject of the documentary, will also be at the assemblies and the public screening of the film to answer questions, according to NMS Cultural Arts Committee Chair Andrea Spencer.
There is a suggested donation of $5 per person for the public screening of the documentary.
According to a release for the screening, a 1988 ski accident left Mr Waddell paralyzed from the waist down when he was just 20 years old. He went on to become the most decorated male skier in Paralympic history and one of a select few who has medaled in both the summer and winter games. In the fall of 2009, Waddell became the first paraplegic to summit Mount Kilimanjaro almost entirely unassisted, and in 2010 he was inducted into both the Paralympic Hall of Fame and the United States Ski and Snowboard Hall of fame.

Ms Spencer said the NameTags assemblies at NMS and Reed will challenge students to think about the assumptions people make regarding all labels. The NameTags program and the documentary are both part of the One Revolution Foundation, started by Mr Waddell, according to Ms Spencer.
