Occupation: Iâm a student at Newtown High School. Iâm a sophomore there. Iâm a cancer survivor, and the Honored Hero for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Light the Night event, September 24, here in Newtown. Iâll be speaking about my experiences. I was diagnosed with leukemia in September of 2005. It feels good to be asked to be the Honored Hero, even though it doesnât even seem like I ever had cancer now. It seems like it was so long ago. I stopped treatments about two years ago.
Family: My mom is Lisa and my dad is George. I have a sister, Sarah, who is 21 years old. She goes to Sacred Heart University.
Pets: We have three cats. Annie is 11 years old, and we got Jake just two weeks before I was diagnosed. Ruby is our kitten. She is just 5 months old.
How long have you lived in Newtown? I was born in Danbury and my family moved to Sandy Hook when I was 2 years old.
What do you like to do in your free time? I like to hang out with my friends, listen to music, play drums, and eat. Iâm in the NHS concert band, playing percussion. I love Netflix, too. I donât even watch regular television anymore.
What music are you listening to now? Right now, Iâm listening to Job For A Cowboy. Itâs a heavy metal band. My favorite song is âEntombment of a Machine.â
Do you have a favorite movie? On Netflix, most recently I watched the new War of the Worlds. It was pretty good.
Do you have a favorite vacation destination? I love to go to Orlando, Fla. Weâve visited Universal Studios three or four times. I like all of the rides, especially the thrill rides.
What is the best thing about Newtown? Thereâs not much crime. Itâs a safe place.
Where do you see yourself in 20 years? Doing something related to computers or music, I hope. Owning my own music store would be good.
Do you have a personal philosophy? Go with the flow.
What makes you happiest? Being with my friends. It got boring sometimes when I was in treatment, because I couldnât always be around my friends.
