NCC Offering Confirmation Classes
NCC Offering Confirmation Classes
Newtown Congregational Church will be offering confirmation classes for youth in the ninth grade.
The confirmation classes, held weekly from October to June, are taught by the Reverend Matt Crebbin, senior pastor of NCC, and the Reverend Janice Touloukian, associate pastor. There will be an informational meeting at 11:30 am on Sunday, October 2. A printable registration form and medical permission slip are on the church website (www.NewtownCongregationalChurch.org, click on Children/Youth page) for those unable to attend.
Confirmation class explores Christian beliefs, the Bible, church history, and the meaning of Christian discipleship in todayâs world. This year the class will also feature a section on comparative religion to help students gain an understanding of our religiously diverse world. The class provides a foundation for youth to explore and mature in their faith and culminates with a written personal statement of faith and a confirmation service.
Throughout the year the youth not only attend their weekly pastorâs class, but also participate in the life of the church, plan a worship service, go on a retreat to New York City, and meet with adult mentors from the congregation who help them in their journey of discovery.
Once confirmed, the youth are recognized as adult members of the church. At that point they also have the opportunity to participate as deacons.
It is not necessary to be a member of Newtown Congregational Church to participate in confirmation classes. The time of the weekly classes will be determined after the informational meeting on October 2, once attendees have the opportunity to determine how everyoneâs personal schedule can work together.
