Jabieski Named Lion Of The Year
John Jabieski has been named Newtown Lions Club Lion of the Year.
A members of the Newtown club since 2008, Mr Jabieski is an active member of the Mustang Car Raffle Committee. He also built the cabinet to protect the raffle drum when in storage.
Mr Jabieski also created the Lions Club information signs at the entrances to Newtown. He took down the old signs, painted the poles, built the frames around the signs and hung them, single-handedly.
In addition to honoring Mr Jabieski, a number of fellow Lions were also recently honored by the club. Fred Stakel and Frank DeLucia received the Knight of the Blind Award, which is granted by the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation for outstanding service to the Newtown Club and the State of Connecticut.
Bill Denlinger and Dick Kovacs received the Loyal Shepard Award, which is granted by the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation to recognize individuals who have provided extraordinary service to the community.
Steve Bennett received the Ambassador of Sight Award, an honor which is conferred by the Lions Low Vision Center of Connecticut, which teaches the visually impaired new ways to use remaining eyesight.
Pete McNulty and George Arfaras receive the Melvin Jones Award, named for the founder of Lions Club International. It is the highest form of recognition conferred by the Lions Club International Foundation.
