FEMA Aid Available

To Storm Victims

People who need governmental assistance repairing  the property damage caused by the recent Tropical Storm Irene may register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

FEMA may be reached by calling 800-621-3362.  TTY device users may call 800-462-7585.

The Internet address is www.disasterassistance.gov; for smart phones, m.fema.gov.

After contacting FEMA, people seeking help will be asked for: their telephone number for callback purposes; their social security number; their current mailing address; the address of the damaged property; a brief description of the damages; and insurance information.

Once registered, people will be issued a FEMA identification number for future contact with the agency; a FEMA disaster housing inspector may call to set up an appointment to view the damage.

FEMA assistance may include grants for temporary housing and home repair, low-interest loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs.
