Garner Prisoner Arrested On Assault Charge

State police said they responded to Garner Correctional Institution, the state’s high security prison on Nunnawauk Road, about 7 pm on September 14 to investigate a report of a fight that had occurred between two prison inmates.

Following an investigation, state police arrested inmate Johnnie Thompson, 28, on a charge of third degree assault for allegedly assaulting inmate Miguel Cruz, 35, who was injured in the incident.

Thompson is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on September 26.

Thompson is an unsentenced inmate who is being held on $10,000 bail on a violation of probation charge. Cruz is an unsentenced inmate who is being held on $150,000 bail on a charge of first-degree assault.
