Danbury Hospital

 Carter Hunt has been appointed as director of operations for the hospital’s Southbury programs at the Danbury Hospital Health Center in the Southbury Medical Building at 22 Old Waterbury Road in Southbury. Mr Hunt comes to the hospital from Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., where he was the coordinator of outpatient rehabilitation.

 Sarah E.A. Balfour, MD, has joined the staff of Primary Care of Southbury. She earned her medical degree at the University of Calgary and served a residency in family medicine at the University of Ottowa. She is board certified in family medicine in Canada and board eligible in the United States.

Dental Associates

 Dr Ying Sung, DDS, has joined the Newtown office of Dental Associates. She is a graduate of McGill University, with a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and immunology, and earned a doctorate in dental surgery at the New York University College of Dentistry. Her residency was completed at the University of Stony Brook Dental Center with emphasis in implant restoration and cosmetic dentistry.

New Milford Hospital

Mark A. Apfelbaum, MD, has been appointed to the newly created position of cardiac catherization (cath) lab director in anticipation of the program expansion to include angioplasty. He was director of the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System Cath Labs. He is board certified in interventional cardiology, a fellow in the American College of Cardiology, and associate clinical professor of medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians.

Doreen Konik, MD, has joined the medical staff at New Milford Hospital. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Connecticut and earned her doctorate at New York University School of Medicine. She did her residency at Boston University Medical Center and was a member of the Newton-Wellesley Hospital medical staff for the past 11 years. She is board certified in internal medicine and has a special interest in women’s health issues.

 

St Vincent’s Medical Center

Peter S. Boone, MD, received the St Vincent de Paul Award as St Vincent’s Medical Center Physician of the Year for consistently demonstrating “leadership, exceptional clinical and teaching skills, teamwork, compassion and advocacy for patients and families as well as respect for staff.” On active staff in the Division of Orthopedic Surgery, where he specializes in joint replacement surgery, he is board certified in orthopedic surgery and maintains a private practice at the Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center in Trumbull. Dr Boone has published widely, and has participated in many symposiums in his field.
