College visits are ongoing year round at the high school. Representatives from colleges and universities visit Newtown High School to inform and answer questions regarding their school. College visit schedules are available in the guidance office. Newtown High School will hold a College Fair in the gymnasium of the school at 7 pm on Tuesday, October 11. Students are encouraged to attend to learn more about their choices and opportunities.
Newtown resident Robert Henry received a doctor of education in educational leadership this summer from Argosy University in Sarasota, Fla.
Maggie Lyon, the daughter of Donna and Bruce Lyon of Newtown has earned her associate degree in baking and pastry arts from The Culinary Institute of America (CIA). She was also a member of the CIA deanâs list.
Sandy Hook resident, Aimee Clavette was among 150 students in Providence Collegeâs class of 2009 who spent their first days at Providence participating in the collegeâs 15th annual Urban Action Program. The freshman and 25 upper class leaders volunteered over 3,000 hours to improve the Urban Edge Farm, located in Cranston, R.I.
Aimee helped to clear brush and prepared fields for a new organic gardening project at the farm.
PFC Christopher Espy, son of Ann Marie and Kenneth Cohen of Newtown, has graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. PFC Espy is currently assigned to Advanced Individual Training Division at Norfolk Naval Base, School of Music. He is a member of the Connecticut National Guard 102nd Army Band in Bristol. Upon completion of his specialized training, Chris will resume studies at UConn School of Fine Arts where he is an undergraduate student in his junior year majoring in music performance.
