Trump The Donald
To the Editor:
The definition of narcissism: excessive self-admiration and self-centered. Psychiatry is slightly more definitive: a personality disorder characterized by the patient’s overestimation of his or her own appearance and abilities and an excessive need for admiration. When a political candidate’s ego and self-admiration exceeds the concerns for his country, what you get is a Donald Trump. He wants to be President of the United States because, in his eyes, that is the ultimate ego satisfying position. When a person smacks you in the face, a first reaction is to smack them back, which has been “The Donald’s” tactic throughout these early campaign days. The presidency is not determined by a boxing match.
Many of us are still unhappy with what Washington is doing, or I should say – not doing. As a result, boisterous, arrogant demeanor is resonating with many who believed Obama was going to correct (as promised) the Washington problems, improve the economy, and be a leader in foreign relations. The result: a backlash in the electorate, which is using Mr Trump very effectively as their messenger. Does this mean that he is a fait accompli? I think not, but I do believe his lead represents the dissatisfaction of the American people. Even though he has escalated to a GOP margin that fluctuates somewhere between 26-32 percent, which to me means that 68-74 percent of the electorate are still not with him. Often, when we are not happy with a specific political, economic or social situation we look for the “bull-in-the-china-shop.” Is there any question in your mind that we found one?
To compare running a company, which by the way, has more experienced individuals within their ranks than almost all government departments, does not mean that a person is capable of running a country. Mr Trump relies tremendously on his experienced, well-educated people that contribute significantly to his wealth and success. If elected who will he rely on? Will he employ those who are currently working for him (potentially sacrificing his company’s potential), or will he continue with the existing pool of government employees? The objective of any profit-oriented company is to produce profit, while the objective of government is, almost certainly, oriented to the purpose of providing people with safety, the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, through law and order. Government and company purposes are significantly different, which dictates their modus operandi. Will Donald Trump be able to adjust to government policies and procedures or will he remain the bull-in-a-china shop breaking more than he fixes?
I am a Republican because I firmly believe in basic conservative principles. Nevertheless, as I have mentioned before, I am an American first and will vote for the person best suited to address the issues facing us today. Mr Trump is not that person.
