Again this year the sound of motorcycles running in a pack down Route 25 will fill late September’s air.

The sixth annual Firehouse Ride on Sunday, September 27, will support Newtown Hook & Ladder Co. #1’s efforts to build a new firehouse. One hundred percent of funds will benefit this goal. Site work has already begun at 12 Church Hill Road, where the new fire station will be constructed.

The ride will start and end at Time Out Sports Bar & Grill (the former One-Eyed Pig), within Ricky’s Shopping Center at 71 South Main Street. Registration begins at 9 am and the 50-mile ride with blocked intersections will depart at 11 am following a blessing of the bikes.

Registration is $30 for rider, $15 for passengers, and $15 to just join the lunch once riders return.

The afternoon will include a pig roast/barbecue with live music, raffle prizes, and an opportunity to meet and greet the members of Newtown Hook & Ladder.

This year’s ride is dedicated to the memory of Hook & Ladder Life Member Richard M. Liska, Sr.

According to a press release from the fire company, “The annual Firehouse Ride has become one of our most successful fundraisers. This year’s event is essential to our future financial needs and we are working hard to ensure an amazing turnout.”

Members are continually raising funds to offset mortgage and construction costs. Also planned is a mutual aid fundraising campaign to assist with costs in excess of building construction. Funds will be dedicated for the kitchen, day room, and a museum.

Hook & Ladder members are inviting motorcycle riders and anyone interested in supporting Newtown’s oldest fire company to the 2015 Firehouse Ride. The sixth annual event will take place Sunday, September 27.
