Newtown Club Offering Lessons For Aspiring Bridge Players
Newtown Bridge Club will host a new series of lessons for aspiring bridge players at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street.
Bridge 1: The Basics, an eight-class course for true beginners as well as players returning to bridge after an absence of some years, will be held on Tuesday mornings, 9:30-11:30, starting September 24. This is a hands-on course and everyone will be playing bridge the first week. By the end of the course, players have the confidence to join bridge games with friends.
Tuition is $125. Classes continue through November 12.
For players who have learned the basics, Chat Bridge on Wednesdays, 9:30-11:30 am, is an opportunity to practice what they’ve learned and ask questions during the bidding and play.
Newcomer Bridge on Saturdays, 10 am-noon, is a short bridge game where newer players can compete with others at the same skill level; a complimentary lesson at 9:40 precedes the game. Partners are not required. Game fee is $13 per person ($10 for club members).
“Our bridge programs emphasize fun and learning from playing,” said Susan Fronapfel, club manager and ACBL Accredited Teacher, who leads the classes. “Bridge is a social game that provides a workout for the brain whether taking classes or playing.”
Newtown Bridge Club is affiliated with the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). The club holds regularly scheduled bridge games on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons at 12:30 pm at Edmond Town Hall.
