To the Editor,

Hello, Neighbors. My name is Laura Miller, and I would like your vote for Legislative Council, District 1. Currently, I serve on the Board of Finance, a position that has given me a deeper understanding of the town’s financial workings. Previously, I chaired the Newtown Youth and Family Services Board and the Holiday Festival for years.

In addition to all of my volunteer work, I am a principal at an alternative high school. I manage multiple roles as a school leader; I am responsible for a multi-million dollar budget, curriculum creation, hiring and retaining staff, student outcomes, and many smaller and larger daily decisions, not unlike the various issues I will encounter on the Legislative Council.

My family and I have lived in Newtown for over 20 years. My children attended Newtown’s great schools, and they thrived in our close-knit community.

I am running because I want to see Newtown move forward again. I want to move away from the partisan extremism we have seen on some of our boards. It is time to bring people together by listening, sharing information quickly and efficiently, and by putting politics aside for our common interests.

I will bring a unique perspective to the Legislative Council because of my experience leading nonprofit organizations, managing diverse stakeholder interests, and serving on the Board of Finance. I am also the only woman, Democrat or Republican, running in District 1.

Please vote on November 7 for Laura Miller, Legislative Council, District 1.

Sincerely,

Laura Miller

Newtown
