Watercolor By Wilk, Next SCAN Program
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Laura Wilk painting in watercolor at the next meeting of SCAN on Wednesday, September 26, at 1:30 pm. This demonstration will take place at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited, and admission is free.
Ms Wilk is a Connecticut artist who has lived and worked in the state for most of her professional career, which has spanned 25 years. She started as a fiber artist painting on silk and now works exclusively in watercolor, primarily creating highly detailed, representational paintings.
Ms Wilk often picks her subjects by color, and is particularly drawn to the reds and oranges found in fruits and flowers. She works in transparent paint and layers extensively to get the deep, rich color that fill her paintings. She likes to change the mundane into the spectacular, she has said, by making her subjects radiate with light.
She has had a number of solo shows and participated in many group shows, with her work receiving numerous awards, the most recent being from Connecticut Watercolor Society, New England Watercolor Society, and Easton Arts Council. She is a Signature Member of both the New England Watercolor Society and Kent Art Association. Her work is currently being featured in a one-artist show within KAAâs Elected Artistsâ Invitational, on view until October 14.
Her work has been published in the 2011 Splash: Best of Watercolor. She is represented by Dragonfly Gallery on Marthaâs Vineyard and her work is on permanent display at Halstead Property in Wilton.
Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, but additional information is available from Ruth Newquist at 203-426-6654.
