Scholarships Available

The Newtown High School Career Center publicizes all scholarships of which it is notified. A few of the scholarships , typically national ones, request that money be enclosed with the application.

The Career Center believes that students should not have to pay to apply for scholarship. If a student chooses to apply for a scholarship that charges a fee, however, the Career Center strongly advises parents and students to check its authenticity through the FTC Consumer Response Center (www.ftc.gov or 877-FTC-HELP); the National Fraud Information Center (www.fraud.org or 800-876-7060); or the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org or 703-276-0100).

The contest winner will receive a grand prize of $2,000, with the two runner-ups earning $500. Learn more at www.stopbullying.challenge.gov. The video submission deadline is October 14.

Foot Locker Scholar Athletes — The truth is that many deserving students, who have dedicated a great deal of their time to athletics, will not receive athletic scholarships to college. Foot Locker and DoSomething.org will be rewarding 20 incoming college freshmen with $20,000 in scholarship funding for college — not because they scored the most touchdowns, but because of their character and commitment to volunteerism. This is the award for flexing heart, not muscle. Submit an online application www.dosomething.org/footlocker by the December 5 deadline.
