Crushing Warriors 3, White Lightning 0: Kicking off the season with a spirited battle, both sides gave great effort and sportsmanship. Elise Baricelli opened the scoring for the Crushing Warriors with a shot on net. From there, the White Lightning defense dug in. Hannah Galda was a strong presence in the defensive sweeper position and provided excellent overall defense. Melissa Tagliariniâs powerful foot was extremely helpful in knocking the ball to the midfielders. Stellar and fearless goalkeeping by Kristen Reisert and Bianca Madar routinely stopped shots on goal and cleared the ball. Finally, the Crushing Warriors offense broke through with Isabella Gerace and Maggie Breault scoring on long breakaways they finished with shots in net. Alexis Woods and Jillian Bobowick provided outstanding hustle and skill to keep the offense moving. The White Lightning offense mounted their counterattack with Madeline Greenhaw and Erin Connor dominating the front line with lightning speed and fantastic ball handling skills. The Crushing Warriors defense, led by the intrepid play of Katelyn Zaniewski, Amelia Bajcer and Samantha Kuruc, as well as the rock solid goal keeping of Alyssa Jones stopped the charges.

Tigers 5, Greenwich 0: The U9 Travel Girls Tigers had a solid 5-0 victory against Greenwich this week at home. Abby Stites started things off assisted by Erin Phaneuf, then Shannon Kellerher netted one, followed up by Ella Hage Tori Gioiele Emma and Magazu each with one. The two goalies did not see too much action thanks to a solid defense led by Izzy Butler, but when they did, it was perfect keeping by Taegan Smith and Allie McCarthy.

Newtown Cobras 2, Redding 0: The Cobras moved to 2-0 in league games with a shutout of Redding. The Cobras jumped out in front on a goal by Cameron Powers who netted a smart pass from Elizabeth Teixeira. Impressive on offense throughout the game, the Cobraâs second goal came on an errant pass by a defender under pressure for the goal. Emma Butler, Riley Burns, and Sophia Child moved the ball well through the midfield, while Megan Riccardi, Julia Gerace and Becca Filiato had shots stopped by the Redding goaltenders. Meghan Delp, Katie Stan and Piper Salva were instrumental on defense in helping goaltenders Elizabeth Cassetta and Michaela Cosgriff preserve the shut out.
Thunderbolts 2, Cheese Doodles 0: Kate Petersen scored a goal in the first half after a pass from Shea Murphy. Lindsey Booth and Jordan Gomes gave an excellent effort in midfield. Kimberly Johnson, Amyla Posey and Carla Fabrizio all played tough defense, keeping the Doodles from scoring during the 60-minute match. Abby Grenier was aggressive in goal in the first half and after moving to offense in the second half, she scored the second goal to bring the lead to 2-0. The Doodle offense was anchored by the nice overall play of Anna Romano, Katherine Viselli and Nicole Fisher, all of whom moved the ball well and exhibited great passing skills early in the season. Meghan Chipman and Anatoli Chatzikonstantinou both played very well in the forward slot. The Doodle defense was supported by the stellar play of Alyssa Baily, Anna Morosky and Elizabeth Roggenbauer, who combined to limit the attack by their opponent. Holly Ankers played an excellent game in net during the second half of the contest.

Wolfpack 0, Darien 0: The strong defense was led by Colleen Phaneuf, supported by Hannah Dalyâs speed tracking down Darien and several clearing kicks by Maddie Stites. Goalies Muhlia Gioffree and Faith OâHara were both perfect with impressive saves. The offense pressed many times with Kaitlyn King, Karson Pirone and Sarah Tressler, all with strong shots that just missed.
Fairfield 2, Wolfpack 0: Karson Pirone, who netted the girlsâ first goal was all over the field in one half of a hard fought, physical game and also shared goalkeeping duties with Kaitlyn King in a perfect goalie defense. Sarah Tressler had a breakaway goal as well, followed by several shots from Laura Augenbraun. Malia Gioffree led the defense allowing the Wolfpack to play most of the game in Fairfieldâs backfield with big midfield and additional offense from Hannah Groonell, Kaley Meisenheimer and Bella Manfredi.

Fairfield 1, Dynamite 0: Veronica Vodola and Katie Sailer tried to make the best of what the Fairfield defense had to offer, but were stymied at every turn. Nathalie Schickendantz and Lindsay Merrifield returned the favor by holding the midfield in check. By the second half, the heat from the artificial turf at Tilson started to take its toll. The Red Dragons stepped up their play and took control halfway in on a low shot to the right corner. Even with the strong play of Kristen Cirone and Sarah Widmann, the Dynamite were unable to recover. The 5-1 Dynamites return to action this Saturday as they take on the Burlington Huskies at Reed School in the first round of the CJSA Fall Connecticut Cup.

Newtown 5, Easton/Redding 4: Newtown started off the fall season in splendid form, jumped out to 5-1 lead before withstanding three second half breakaways to prevail 5-4. Hailey Conrad scored twice in the first half, assisted by Jess Maturo and Emily Neave. Neave scored on a booming kick later in the half off an assist by newcomer Mallory Lobuglio. Meghan Doyle came up big in goal, stopping a penalty kick. Early in the second, Olivia Caplan converted a penalty kick, and Ali Manfredi positioned herself perfectly to knock in a rebound for what turned out to be the decisive goal. Taylor Pare was strong at mid-field, while Katie Elkins played determined defense.
Newtown 4, Darien 0: Newtown was dominant on both ends of the field in defeating their perennial rival. The movement and passing in the first half was some of the finest displayed by the team. Kendra Dunnigan started the scoring with a goal high in the side of the net off a sharp angle. Hailey Conrad added the second goal on a high arching shot from close to the sideline. Julia Sughrue was spectacular at midfield, constantly setting up teammates and getting off three shots on goal. Midway through the second half, she assisted on a goal by Mia Katsuleres. Jess Maturo closed out the scoring on a rebound off her own shot. Clair Beiter and Lauren King anchored the defense, with King pushing up to contribute a shot on goal. Goalies Meghan Doyle and Stef Carr combined for the shut out.
American Eagles 4, Huskies 3: A shorthanded American Eagles team, playing with only eight players, battled to a 4-3 win over the determined Huskies. Sarah MacMullan scored an amazing four goals on assists from Megan Cooney (2), Grace Sholtes (2) and Haley Taylor. Kaysie Fisher and Rachel Tomasino led the American Eaglesâ defensive effort with several well-timed tackles and strong positional play, while Olivia Butler, Izzy Kaiser and Justice Zoto tirelessly pressured the ball and created several scoring chances. For the Huskies, Sam Olah led the offense with two goals, and Janyce Toth added one. Assists were credited to Paige Simms and Calista Giroux. Savannah Davidow and Ally Toth played strong defense as did Katelyn Henchcliffe in goal.
Wild Animals 2, Canât Remember 0: The Wild Animals emerged victorious from a hard-fought contest. The Wild Animals had the larger share of possessions keeping Canât Remembersâ defense of Diana Akiri, Lauryn Ankers, Morgan Richmond and Emma DaSilva busy. Midway through the first half, Zoe Ivan struck a corner kick but could not cash in. Then Isabelle Row scored to put the Animals on the score sheet. Canât Remember stepped up their game for the second half. Willow Pears, Allie Fortugno, Merjie DeWit and Kristina Goeree all showed great pace and vision, launching several attacks from midfield. Holly LoCasio and Elizabeth Weisgerber tackled solidly, and were backed up by some great work in goal by Camryn Findley, Madison Findley, Kiernan Kelly and Greta Capeci. Jenna Ehnot was outstanding in the Canât Remembers goal, keeping their chances of a comeback alive until Camryn Findley, snuck in a shot assisted by Emily Booth to make it 2-0. Canât Remember player Keira Veillette dominated midfield and worked tirelessly alongside Juliette Row to lay siege to the oppositionâs goal during the final few minutes of the game, but the Wild Animals held firm.
Panthers 2, Fairfield 1: Great Staubly and Diana Kirkman led the Panthers to victory. Juliet Grover took home two goals with assists from Priya Deraney and Lauren Russo. Allie Paynter and Dani Otero showed great hustle containing Fairfield down field where Jess Cruz, Samantha Crespo and Kaitlyn McNicholas kept the offensive pressure on. Mary Hufziger displayed awesome footwork fending off the Fairfield players, while Catherine Shaw and Jess Cruz kept the ball in Fairfield territory. Kira Kelly shined in goal, while Maria Ringes displayed intensity on the field and in the goal. Audrey Sedensky and Bryanna Benson displayed outstanding defensive pressure.

Thunderbolts 2, Team Six 1: A long-range chipped goal for Team 6 just after half-time looked like it would be enough for victory, but the Thunderbolts turned up the heat in a frantic final few minutes of play to steal the win with two late goals. For the Thunderbolts, a turbocharged Johnny Moxham tirelessly orchestrated attacks from midfield and help set up Eitan Halevi to blast home the equalizer. Team 6âs well-organized defense stood firm against a sustained period of intensive pressure from the Thunderboltâs strike force in the fourth quarter, until Saahil Ray finally picked his way through the melee to slot in the last-gasp winner. Nate Taylor was outstanding in the Thunderboltâs goal early on, while in defense Sam Ankers worked up a huge tackle count while preventing Team 6 scoring in the first half.

Fairfield 1, Newtown 0: It was all about defense. The Newtown Pythons battled against Fairfield for almost the entire game locked in a 0-0 tie until Fairfield punched in a goal with only minutes left to take the win. The Pythons put consistent pressure on the goal with multiple shots, but it was just one of those days where everything went wide, high or into the keepers hands. Putting up a great defensive stand of their own lead by CJ Cuomo and Ryan Poupon, the Pythons put in a great effort overall.
Space Narwhals 4, Flamethrowers 1: The Space Narwhals played a sharp game against the tough standing Flamethrowers. While the Narwhals pulled ahead late in the game, the match was a battle from the start. For the Narwhals, incredible offensive play was made by Stephen Mayer as he hit two consecutive goals on fast breakaways to take the lead going into the half. Add-on goals were made by Mathew Weisgerber and Karl Miller. Both goals were made after solid passes from Benjamin Paley and Milan Chand. In goal for the Narwhals Jacob Shuman and Zachary Ziperstein were steadfast keeping the ball away from the net. On Defense, Fritz Maurath and Nicholas Jacobs held strong in keeping the defenders at bay with a number of stops. The Flamethrowers were led on offense by the speed and hustle of Tyler Grosso, Arav Dave, Elijah Baraw and Chris Shaker. Shaker also found the back of the net for the lone Flamethrower goal. Andrew Bazuro, Evan Booth, Colin Marshall and Ryan Stutman had outstanding defensive games helping limit the Narwhals attack. Strong efforts in goal were given by Nick Hobar and Miller Tetreault.

Darien 5, Newtown Blaze 0: The Newtown Blaze boys fell to a strong Darien team this weekend, though the final score did not fully reflect the effort demonstrated on the field by the Blaze. Owen Baillargon, Tristan Andrews and Thomas Armstrong started on the front line with several shots on goal. Bryce Benson and Joseph Preemus kept the pressure on the defensive line, while Will Pellison and Ben Futterman hustled in the midfield. JP Ford tended goal in the first half, but was replaced by Owen Baillargon after a collision during a goal save. Darien started their scoring with a goal off a direct kick and put a total of three goals on the scoreboard in the first half. Tristan Andrews defended the Blaze goal during the second half and demonstrated some amazing saves, limiting the fast Darien boys to two additional goals. Bryce Benson, Ben Futterman, Jacob Laros, Will Pellison and Duncan OâLeary all had shots on goal, including some great crosses, but were unable to get an angle on a net goal.

Newtown 7, Fairfield 2: Striker Jack Oltran notched a hat-trick, scoring one goal in the first period and back-to-back goals in the second half. Aidan OâLeary broke the ice, lofting a pretty 25-yard shot over the goalkeeper. Danny Arneth followed with a nifty backward roller just in front of the goal. Oltran scored a few minutes later, capitalizing on a mishandled ball. Newtown kept the pressure on while strong defensive play from James Barden, Jack Armstrong, Wally Skrelja and Santiago Forero kept the ball away from goalie Michael Greenspan for most of the afternoon. Greenspan had two saves. Thomas Skrelja, who was in goal for the first half, opened the scoring in the second knocking in a well-placed pass from midfielder Henry Petrillo. Larson and Oltran added late goals.
