The Fairfield State Hospital this week announced the organization of a student dental hygiene program in cooperation with Fones School of Dental Hygiene of the University of Bridgeport. The affiliation is the first of its kind to be inaugurated at the Newtown hospital and the first time the Fones School has entered into such a program. The students will spend one day a week, for five weeks, in the hospitalâs dental service. It will enable the service to provide a more complete dental treatment program for both ambulatory and bed patients.

The United Fire Company of Botsford after responding to a small fire in the home of John Webster of Sycamore Drive last Thursday morning, had to retrieve its fire truck which had been parked in front of the house and which rolled about 150 feet and over an embankment. The apparatus rolled backwards down the hill, across Huntingtown Road and stopped among brush and trees. The vehicle sustained only slight damage and was driven back to the firehouse in the afternoon.

The quick action of Newtownâs fire companies prevented serious damage last Saturday when the large chicken house located on the property of James E. Wilkenson of Appleblossom Lane burned to the ground. Although hampered by the lack of water, the firemen were able to confine the fire to the chicken house and prevented it from spreading to many homes nearby.

At a special parish meeting Sunday night, Trinity Episcopal Church extended a formal call to the Rev Edward H. Cook, general secretary of the Department of Missions and Church Extension of the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut in Hartford. Rev Cook began his ministry as a missionary of the Episcopal Church in Eastern Oregon, where he started a new church and two new church schools.

The dump at the rear of Dr Corriganâs property has been closed by the health officer. It will soon be covered with sand or gravel. All dumping of any sort is now prohibited by law, and the law will be enforced. Rubbish, garbage, tin cans, etc can hereafter be unloaded on the town dump on the property of Hiram Morgan, on the road to Berkshire, near the entrance to Pine Grove Park.

Moving pictures are now being filmed at the Alexandria Room of the Edmond Town Hall, this Thursday, under the direction of Dr Henry Roger, Newtown scientist, showing the proper treatment for pneumonia. The pictures are being taken for the New York State Department of Health, whose representatives are assisting with the work.

Last week there were 16 cases of infantile paralysis in the State of Connecticut, including one in Newtown. The patient in Newtown is Miss Helen Hanlon, 13-year-old Hawley school girl, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Hiram Hanlon who lives in Zoar district. She and all positive contacts have been placed under quarantine. The epidemic, so far, is not a large one, and it appears the peak has now been passed.

The strong hold Rev and Mrs O.O. Wright have on the good people of St Johnâs church was again evinced, Wednesday night, in the large attendance at the farewell reception tendered them at Gloverâs hall, Sandy Hook. Speeches of appreciation of the work and character of Rev and Mrs Wright were made by Rev James H. George, Rev Francis W. Barnett, Rev T.N. Laine and Allison P. Smith. Rev Mr Wright retires from the parish work at the age of 68, with the purpose of serving as temporary supply, on Sunday.

Methodist Church: There will be no services at the church next Sunday. In the morning the pastor and congregation will unite is a fraternal closing service with the Rev O.O. Wright in St Johnâs Episcopal church at 10:45 oâclock.

The Fabric Fire Hose Co. are having new roofing placed on a part of their factory in Sandy Hook. Mr Plumb, of the Farmersâ Supply & Roofing Co. of Bridgeport, had the contract and executed a first class job.
