Boys' Soccer Team Ties, Wins
Boysâ Soccer Team Ties, Wins
Newtown High Schoolâs boysâ soccer team began its season similarly to the way last year ended â but with less disappointment since a lot less was on the line and the outcome was a bit more favorable to the hometown booters.
In a rematch with Fairfield Prep, which knocked the Nighthawks out of last fallâs Class LL state tournament in penalty kicks following regulation and overtime, both teams were deadlocked after regulation once again. This time, with no penalty kicks in regular season action, the squads finished in a scoreless draw in the September 12 opener, at Blue & Gold Stadium.
The Nighthawks, who split a pair of regular season contests with South-West Conference foe Bethel last year, defeated host Bethel 1-0 on September 14, avenging a late-campaign 1-0 setback to the Wildcats last fall.
Newtown was scheduled to host Stratford on Thursday (after The Bee went to press), and will visit Notre Dame-Fairfield on Saturday, September 22. The Hawks are home (at Treadwell Park) to face Masuk of Monroe on September 24 at 3:45 pm, and host Weston under the lights at Blue & Gold Stadium on September 27 at 7 pm. The Hawks may have likely one of their toughest tests of the campaign on September 29 when they visit rival Joel Barlow of Redding.
