Annual Town Health Fair Set For September 29 At NMS

September 29 is the 19th annual Health and Public Safety Fair, sponsored by the Newtown Prevention Council. Fair organizers Mae Schmidle, Della Schmid, Donna Culbert, and Judy Blanchard are excited about promoting all the free health screenings, free information and advice, and all the giveaways.

Residents are invited to the Newtown Middle School between 9 am and 1 pm.

“There is no admission cost to attend any or all of the four-hour event,” Ms Culbert said. “Residents can drop by for a quick visit or stay for as long as they like. There are numerous free drawings, including a bicycle from Bike Shop sponsored by the Newtown Prevention Council; gift certificates to many of Newtown’s restaurants and eateries to honor Family Day, and promotions from many of our local businesses.”

Newtown’s first responders will be front and center to meet visitors. All five volunteer fire companies — Botsford, Dodgingtown, Hawleyville, Hook & Ladder, and Sandy Hook — will be represented along with the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Newtown Underwater Search And Rescue.

“Out front as well as inside the gym Newtown Police Department members will be demonstrating their canine officer’s skills, inspecting or installing child safety seats, and providing DARE information,” she added.

Free health screenings will include:

*Skin cancer screening by Dr William Notaro

*Hearing screening by audiologist Anne Lynn,

*Posture and scoliosis screening by Dr Della Schmid,

*Cholesterol screening by Impact Health,

*Blood pressure and blood sugar screening by Western Connecticult Home Care (formerly Danbury Visiting Nurse Association),
