White Sox 12, Aâs 1: The White Sox started the season off in exciting fashion. In the first inning with runners on first and second and no one out, a single to right field was picked up by James Tibolla, relayed to pitcher Tyler Trede who gunned to Robbie Morril who applied the tag. Tyler Trede closed the door from there. Tyler Fuori and Robert Murray kept the Aâs off balance the remainder of the way. The three combined for several strikeouts, while only yielding one unearned run. Hitting stars included Tyler Fuori, 3-for-3 with 4 RBI; Tyler Trede, 3-for-3 with three runs scored; Garrett Marino, 2-for-3; Robbie Morrill, a long double and three RBI; and Robert Murray, a single and three runs scored. The team also tallied nine stolen bases and another three runners beating the tags at home plate on passed balls.
White Sox 15, Tigers 2: Even though 15 runs were scored by the White Sox, the game belonged to the pitching of James Tibolla and Thomas Luciano who yielded only one earned run. They consistently delivered strikes allowing the defense to make the plays. Great defensive plays by Garrett Mario, pitchers James Tibolla and Thomas Luciano, and a bag-bag play by Robert Murray and Robbie Morrill, who gunned down a runner trying to score from second base, led the way. The offensive explosion was lead by Robert Murray who went 4-for-4 with 7 RBI; Ryan Burns, 2-for-2 with three runs scored; Tyler Fuori, 2-for-3 with an RBI; Robbie Morrill, 2-for-4 with 2 RBI; Garrett Marino, 2-for-4 with an RBI; and James Tibolla, 2-for-4. George Mohigel and Thomas Luciano each scored two runs.
Orioles 13, Aâs 12: The Orioles rallied from five runs down in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Aâs 13-12. Adam Gary drove in two runs with a double to tie the game before Ryan Mailloux lined a hard single to right field for the exciting walk-off victory. Every Oriole had a base hit and the team was led by the three-hit games of Mailloux, Gray, Harry Lucas, and Todd Petersen. Brooks Petershack, Bobby Elston, Cody Camputaro, and Liam Loging all played solid defense and contributed clutch base hits. Johnathan Nahmias also pitched and played well behind the plate for the Orioles.
Rockies 10, Dodgers 5: The Rockies got their season off to a great start with a 10-5 victory over the Dodgers. Sammy Kapur pitched two hitless inning, striking out four and walking one. Star of the game Luke Kirby pitched two shutout innings, also striking out four batters. Kirbyâs two-run triple in the second inning put the Rockies out in front for good. The Rockies also stole eight bases in the game with steals by Ryan Nolan, Andrew Via, Ben Albee, and Jack Lydon. Andrew Via threw two pitches to end the Dodger rally earning his first save of the season.
Rockies 10, Pirates 5: The Rockies improved to 2-0 during the leagueâs Throw-back Weekend. In a game at Liberty Field, in which only the 10-year-olds could pitch, the younger Rocky players held down a powerful Pirate team. Jack Lydon took the hill for the first two innings giving up one earned run. Player of the game Andrew Via pitched two innings of one-run ball. In the bottom of the fourth with two Pirates on, Andrew made a diving catch to end the inning and stop a Pirate rally. Andrew also singled in two runs in the top of the fifth to put the game out of reach. Luke Kirby tripled in his second straight game. Shea Talbot closed out the game earning his first save of the season. Catcher Thomas Coppinger threw out two Pirates in the sixth inning to end the game.
