Wilton Garden Club Is Planning A Fundraising

A Kitchen Tour And Standard Flower Show For September 28

WILTON — Wilton Garden Club will offer “A Bountiful Fare: Kitchen Tour and Standard Flower Show” on Saturday, September 28. The 10 am to 4 pm tour of six inspiring Wilton kitchens will include an advanced standard judged flower show, with each location displaying a dozen or so spectacular floral designs or exhibits.

Profits from the tour will fund garden club contributions to local organizations.

The kitchens selected for the tour reflect the unique tastes and interests of their owners, and, as such, vary widely in style and character. Whether you fancy antique homes bursting with energy-efficient technologies, or something more modern, such as an ultra-chic loft-style dairy barn, or a cozy farmhouse that can accommodate gracious entertaining on a grand scale, this kitchen tour is sure to have something to please everyone.

A glorious “green” Georgian-style 1770s colonial in Wilton’s historic district; a traditional farmhouse-style home with clean contemporary lines and colors; a lovely Nelson Breed designed country manor on Nod Hill Road; a sleekly modern and ultra-chic dairy barn; an 1860 farmhouse that grew and grew on Hurlbutt Street; and a zingy kitchen by Christopher Peacock all await on September 28.

In addition to the kitchen tour, floral designs created around an array of themes will be artfully presented at each of the homes. For example, at  the “green” Georgian house are “Recipes for Renovation,” which include the classes “Bouquet Garni,” “Salad Greens,” and “Fresh From the Garden.”  The  Country Manor will feature “Tasty Traditional” floral designs with classes entitled “Home Cooking,” “Pot Luck” and “Fall Flavors.”  And the 1860 Farmhouse will show miniature arrangements called “Country Fare,” which will include classes entitled “Tiny Tidbits,” “Espresso, Anyone?” and “Petit Fours.”

At Ambler Farm, 257 Hurlbutt Street, there will also be a Horticulture section entitled “Gleanings from the Garden,” which feature a display of vegetables and cut floral, leaf and branch specimens at their peak, including hibiscus, roses, hostas, hydrangea, cactus, and heirloom plants. Each will be judged for excellence.

Tickets for the tour, which may be purchased that day at Ambler Farm, are $65 per person (cash or check only). Advance sale tickets can be purchased in Wilton at Earth Garden, Open House, and Wilton Kitchen & Bath, or at the Brandman’s Decorating Centers in New Canaan and Norwalk. Tickets can also be purchased online at WiltonGardenClub.org.

Advance sale tickets include High Tea at Ambler Farm, which will be served from noon until 2:30. Programs and directions for the tour will be available at Ambler Farm on the day of the tour as well.
