The Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard will be hosting its annual Open House on Sunday, September 30, at 10 am, at the facility on the grounds of Fairfield Hills.
At 10:15 AM and 12:30 PM, troopers will demonstrate a cavalry mounted drill and perform a musical ride. Guard mounts will be introduced by breed and the Drill Team will perform. At 11:15 AM and 1:30 PM, children may enjoy a ride on the very special cavalry mounts â a once-a-year opportunity to ride a 2GHG horse in an authentic U.S. Army McClellan saddle.
Visitors can also enjoy tours of our facility.
As the Guard plans for its Bicentennial in 2008, the community is invited to help celebrate 199-year-old Connecticut Cavalry traditions.
The Open House is a unique opportunity for community members to learn about Guard and to see it perform. A 100% volunteer, non-profit organization, the Second Company has been serving the citizenry of Connecticut since 1808.
Troopers participate in ceremonial events at the order of either the Governor or the Adjutant General and participates in all gubernatorial inaugurals as well as some presidential inaugurals.
The Second Company also hosts a fund-raising trail ride for St. Judeâs Childrensâ Hospital in November, a Spring Pleasure Ride, the annual Horse Show and sponsors a therapeutic riding program for people with disabilities.
Troopers were honored to participate in the Newtown Labor Day Parade with Governor M. Jodi Rell on September 3.
