Nothing Says Autumn Like Corn

Falling leaves and cooler nights bring with them the shorter days and mulled cider- and warm cinnamon-scented moments of autumn. Accompanying the changing season are yearly traditions of selecting the right pumpkin, choosing decorative gourds, and in Newtown, finding the way out of the corn maze at Castle Hill Farm.
Stephen and Diana Paproski will open their Sugar Lane corn maze the weekend of September 29â30. Viewed from above, this yearâs maze is a triangular network of dead-ending curves and branches that make a lacelike design in the corn. Finding the exit is no kidsâ play, however. Mr Paproski said that some childrenâs school tours will be modified, in fact. âWeâll try to do something with a special exit for the school groups, a shorter run for them,â he said. âWe realized it was a lot for kids to go through.â
Mixing with the aromas of crushed foliage and corn leaves underfoot will be the bonfires continuing throughout October at the farm. The attractions also include hay rides, a pick-your-own pumpkin patch, farm animals, and refreshments. Learn more at CastleHillFarm.net. A small fee will be charged for those attempting the corn maze.
