‘Art Of The Animal’ At Gregory James-Kent

KENT — The Gregory James Gallery will is presenting its fall show, “Art of the Animal,” through October 28. The show features the work of wildlife artist Scott Zuckerman, as well as several regional artists including Roger Kastel, Bill Rice, and John Swatsley.

Scott Zuckerman follows in the long tradition of sporting and wildlife art, recalling such masters of natural impressionism as Bruno Lijefors, George Browne, and Carl Rungius. He sensitively and accurately depicts his subjects with a rich painterly brushwork and a keen understanding of their nature and surroundings as only an avid and vastly experienced hunter and fisherman can do.

Wood sculptor Bill Rice is an entirely self-taught carver of birds and feathers. Incorporating aspects of his subject’s natural habitat into the piece, each individual bird expresses a life and movement uniquely its own. Mr Rice is an elected member of the Society of Animal Artists and is represented in museums, corporation and private collections throughout the US, Canada, China, England and South Africa.

John Swatsley is a contemporary wildlife artist who was trained at the Art Center College of Design in California working in oil paints and conte crayon. Traveling to Alaska and throughout Africa, he paints on location, capturing a heightened emotional content and immediacy.

Roger Kastel is most famous for his work done as an illustrator for Steven Spielberg and the Star Wars and Jaws posters. He devotes his time now to fine art painting and offers several stunning oil paintings of horses and farm life, done in exquisite detail and greater than life-like realism.

The Gregory James Gallery-Kent hours are noon to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday. The gallery is at 25 North Main Street.
