*A reminder that AMERICAN MORTAR ORIGINAL ROCK BAND’s next show will be at Hot Shots Sports Club & Café on Friday, September 28. There is a $3 suggested donation for this show, which will start around 9:30.

In addition to the music – “half covers, both classic and newer rock, and half originals, extremely new rock,” wrote Susan Washburn last week – the evening will also feature a presentation of some of Susan’s original art.

Want more info about the band and its music before the show? Visit a-mortar-rock.com to hear song samples and check the band’s schedule. Want to see some of Susan’s original art? Visit AAAbilityArt.com.

*Here’s something a little different for the ELVIS fans in all of us.

Roots Music Coffeehouse will present “Elvis & Me,” a multimedia presentation at the Common Ground Annex dance studio, in the former CityCenter Dance Factory space (345 Main Street). The program will be on Saturday, September 22. Doors will open at 7:30 pm, with an open mic at 8 and the featured act at 9. Suggested donation is $10 online at RootsMusicCoffeeHouse.com or $12 at the door.

“Elvis & Me (A Movie And Concert),” from the musical mind of Aztec Two-Step’s Rex Fowler, will feature a screening of the documentary 200 Cadillacs, a compelling film that answers the question of What happened to the 200 Cadillacs that Elvis Presley gave away to friends and complete strangers?

“Elvis & Me” is a show honoring the legacy and generosity of Elvis Presley. In addition to the screening there will also be a Q&A and a live concert performance by Mr Fowler of songs written for Elvis and several of The King’s early classics.

For more information, contact Carl W. Knobloch  (info@RootsMusicCoffeeHouse.com) at 798-7044 or Bill Wisnowski (wwisnowski@snet.net) at 994-1903.

*The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University will present the internationally celebrated folk singer ARLO GUTHRIE, back on the road in “Solo Reunion Tour – Together At Last,” on Saturday, September 29, at 8 pm. Tickets are $40, $45 or $50 and can be purchased online at QuickCenter.com or by calling the box office at 203-254-4010 or toll-free 877-ARTS-396 (877-278-7396).

*Updates from The Ridgefield Playhouse for Movies & Performing Arts include a reminder that the wonderful SOPHIE B. HAWKINS will be headlining over there next weekend. Hawkins will have Ridgefield singer-songwriter Kevin Briody opening for her on Saturday, September 29. Tickets for this show are $45 (see ordering details below, after the write-up for other Playhouse shows).

The music of Ritchie Blackmore is well known in the world of rock and roll, but his latest incarnation, called BLACKMORE’S NIGHT, is very different than his sound from the days when he was with Deep Purple. It has been described by journalists as “fantasy music,” “fit for a prince” by Renaissance magazine, and a “Musical theatrical Concept” by Live Nations European promoters. It is played by a Band of “Minstrels,” featuring Blackmore and Candice Night, and it is coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday, October 5, at 8 pm. Tickets are all $40.

On October 6 the featured performers will be HONEYTRIBE, which features Devon Allman (dad is Gregg Allman) and Shemekia Copeland (who is being described as “the next Tina Turner”). This southern rock and blues band will play and 8 o’clock show; tickets are $40 for this show as well.

Also coming to the Playhouse will be two music legends: Rock & Roll Hall of Fame guitarist DAVE MASON and JOHN MAYALL. That show will be on Monday, October 8, at 7:30 pm, and tickets are $60 and $65.

Ridgefield Playhouse tickets can be ordered by calling 203-438-5795 or visiting RidgefieldPlayhouse.org.

Until next week I’ll be seeing you... on the road.
