Platts Hill Road
Motorist Michael Sadlier, 22, of Michigan City, Indiana, who was driving a 1992 Toyota Paseo westbound on Platts Hill Road about 7:30 am September 15, went off the left side of the road and struck a tree, stone wall, and wire fencing, police said.
Sadlier was not injured in the accident, police said.
Police issued Sadlier an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to drive to the right on a curve.
Riverside DUI
Police report that motorist Michael Sperling, 43, of 17 Round Hill Road, Sandy Hook, told them that as he was driving a 1984 Chevrolet van eastbound on Riverside Road near Cherry Street about 7:40 pm September 21, an animal ran into the road and he avoided it by driving to the right, but in doing so struck a tree.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company went to the accident scene, police said. The ambulance corps released Mr Sperling at the scene, police said.
Police said that in investigating the crash, they gave Sperling field sobriety tests, which he failed.
Police charged Sperling with driving under the influence and making an improper right turn.
After processing the case, police released Sperling on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on October 5 to face a judge on the charges.
South Main DUI
Police said they received a telephone call about 11:30 pm September 21 reporting that an auto was being driven erratically on South Main Street. Police said they found the reported 1997 BMW 528 and stopped it on South Main Street, near Huntingtown Road.
Police said the driver, Paul Blandori, 52, of the Riverside section of Greenwich, failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence.
After processing, police released Blandori on a $100 bond for an October 5 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
School Bus Accident
Police report that an accident between a school bus carrying about 30 children and a flatbed truck took place about 7:30 am September 22 near #8 Taunton Lake Road, about 1,500 feet from Mt Pleasant Road. There were no injuries, police said.
Police said the school bus driven by William T. Halstead, Jr, 19, of 6 Johnson Drive, Sandy Hook, was traveling northbound on Taunton Lake Road. A 1988 Chevrolet flatbed truck driven by Brandon P. Sheehan, 24, of 72 Queen Street was traveling southbound there.
As the two vehicles approached one another, they slowed down, but failed to go as far to the right as possible and struck one another, police said.
When the accident occurred, the bus was on its way to Head Oâ Meadow School. It was carrying children ranging from age 6 to 10, police said.
Police issued both drivers written warnings for failure to keep to the right.
Hanover Road
Police report they learned of a one-vehicle accident about 7 am September 23 on Hanover Road.
Motorist Michael J. McNamara, 21, of 6 Driftway Drive, was driving a 1991 Toyota pickup truck northbound on Hanover Road when he lost control of the truck, went onto the northbound road shoulder, and then struck two guard posts and a culvert, police said. McNamara was not injured, police said.
McNamara left the truck at the scene of the accident and walked to his home, police said.
Police issued McNamara misdemeanor summons on charges of evading responsibility, making a restricted turn, and failure to use headlights.
Sandy Hook Collision
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 34 and Mile Hill Road about 6 pm September 23.
Police said motorist Clifford J. Laube, III, 25, of Southbury, who was driving a 1991 Ford Explorer westbound on Route 34, was intending to turn left onto Mile Hill Road, as motorist Ugo Celini, 46, of Easton, who was driving a 1995 Saturn SL-1 eastbound on Route 34, was intending to drive straight through the intersection.
The Ford started turning to the left well before reaching the intersection, police said. The Fordâs driver did not see the approaching Saturn, resulting in a head-on collision, police said. The Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company and the regional paramedic went to the scene.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Celini, and two passengers in the Saturn, Tracy Durant, 34, and Blake Durant, 6, both of Bridgeport, to Danbury Hospital to be checked, police said.
Police issued Laube an infraction ticket on a charge of making a restricted left turn.
SUV Rollover
State police report a sport-utility vehicle rollover accident about 5 pm September 23 on the Interstate-84 Exit 11 off-ramp in Sandy Hook.
State police said motorist Rebecca A. Green, 34, of East Hampton, who was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero, lost control of the vehicle while taking a curve on the off-ramp and rolled over. Green was not injured, state police said.
State police verbally warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.
VW Vs Honda
State police report a rear-end collision on westbound Interstate-84 about 8 am Sept 22.
State police said a 1999 Honda CRV driven by Barry S. Huber, 48, of Plymouth slowed down for heavy traffic and was struck from behind by a 1994 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Gerard Terry, 34, of Southington. There were no injuries. State police said Terry was following too closely.
Juveniles Charged
Police report they charged two male juvenile Newtown High School students with sixth-degree larceny September 27 at the high school. School officials had alerted police that the two boys were in possession of several utility knives stolen from the school, police said. Police additionally charged one of the boys with possession of drug paraphernalia after he was found to be in possession of a homemade pipe. Because they are under 16, police declined to identify the youths. Police said more youths might be involved in the thefts.
 Both youths are scheduled to appear before a judge October 11 in Danbury Juvenile Court.
