Newtown Hook & Ladder and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue firefighters put water on a fully involved passenger vehicle on I-84 West around 9:30 am Wednesday, September 18. Hawleyville Fire was also dispatched to the fire, but held at their station. The interstate was closed by CT State Police for approximately 20 minutes, which led to nearly miles of standstill traffic there in addition to heavy traffic on nearby secondary roads. The driver of the vehicle was able to exit safely, without injury. Modzelewski Towing had a team on-site quickly, ready to remove the vehicle once the fire was fully out. —Bee Photo, Hicks
