Community Organizations To Be Part Of 2024 Newtown Arts Festival

The 2024 Newtown Arts Festival will be welcoming more than ten community organizations when it celebrates the arts Saturday and Sunday, September 21-22, 11 am-5 pm, on the large playing fields at the corner of Trades Lane and DG Beers Boulevard.

Newtown Lions Club, Friends of Newtown Seniors, Newtown Senior Center, Edmond Town Hall, Housatonic Valley Waldorf School, C.H. Booth Library and The Friends of The C.H. Booth Library will all be part of the weekend event, as will Danbury Music Centre. The organizations have all been invited to share their goals and activities with festival attendees.

Local Girl Scouts will be collecting art supplies for kits to be given to the community in the entry tent.

The cARTie Museum Bus will be at the Festival on Saturday from 2-4 pm, and Kind Works (formerly Ben’s Bells CT) will be at the Make It and Take It tent on Sunday.

The Wine and Beer Garden will be open during all hours of the Saturday and Sunday festival and the food trucks will be returning.

Eighty artisans, from woodturning and jewelry to jams and jellies, will be in the center of the festival both days. Also returning is the Freeway, four tents plus Terrific Totes, with craft activities to see and do and for which there is no extra charge.

The Dance Tent will have performances both days with a master class from Ballet Hartford on Sunday.

Members of The Society for Creative Arts in Newtown (SCAN) will be demonstrating plein-air painting at The Art Oasis on Saturday. On Sunday, Weaving Newtown will be in the Fiber Arts tent with demonstrations and instructive projects.

Returning this year will also be The Art of Science Tent, with EverWonder Children’s Museum staff and volunteers leading the activities.

Newtown Arts Festival will also continue to provide shade tents so that visitors can enjoy every part of the festival.

Tickets are $5 for adults. Ages 5 and under will be admitted free.

Although tickets for the two-day Arts Festival can be purchased at the door, visitors are encouraged to buy them early at newtownartsfestival.com. Cash, credit and debit cards will be accepted at the door. Credit and debit cards will be accepted online.

Friday Night Concert

The 2024 Newtown Arts Festival weekend will open with a concert on Friday, September 20.

Zac N’ Fried, a tribute band made up of some of the area’s best musicians paying tribute to The Zac Brown Band, will headline the night concert at Fairfield Hills. Led by founder and Newtown resident Randall John, the band is backed up by fellow Newtowner Matt Spencer on drums and instrumentalists from all over Connecticut.

The opening act of the concert will be King Saison, a group with vibrant stage presence and captivating chemistry.

The concert starts at 7:30, with Zac N’ Fried beginning at 8:30.

The Wine and Beer Garden will be open during the concert. Adult audience members will again be able to purchase and then enjoy wine or beer at their seats. Food trucks will also be there.

Outside food or beverages will not be allowed.

In the event of rain the concert will move to Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street.

Sponsored by Newtown Cultural Arts Commission, proceeds from Newtown Arts Festival funds scholarships for Newtown residents who are graduating high school seniors. The festival also funds grants for Newtown artists and organizations that bring the arts to Newtown.
