C.H. Booth Library, at 25 Main Street, will welcome the return of ArtScapades this month for the group’s 25th lecture in Newtown.

On Wednesday, September 26, at 6:30 pm, Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman will present “East Meets West: From Japonism to Impressionism.”

The program is free, but registration is requested and can be done by calling 203-426-4533 or visiting [naviga:u]chboothlibrary.org[/naviga:u].

The lecture will look at the influence of Japanese art and culture on French and American Impressionism. From how Japanese art came to the attention of the West to the elements that found their way into the art of the day, the lecture will offer attendees a new way to look at old favorites.

ArtScapades will begin with a look at two of Japan’s master printmakers, Hokusai and Hiroshige. It will then move on to discuss their influence on well-known names of the Impressionist movement, including Mary Cassatt, William Merritt Chase, Edgar Degas, Childe Hassam, and Claude Monet.

Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman began teaching art appreciation in 1998. They formed ArtScapades in 2010 as a way to share their knowledge with adults looking for a general overview of various periods of art.

Their lectures cover art periods ranging from the Old Masters to Modern Art and art movements ranging from American Folk Art to art in Papua New Guinea. Their goal is that their lectures will inspire a greater appreciation of art, galleries, and museums.

ArtScapades has presented for various organizations, including libraries and museums in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and Florida.
