Town, Public School District Schedule Pre-Referendum Informational Meetings
The Town of Newtown and the Newtown Public School District have partnered to offer a series of informational meetings for the public to answer questions about the referendum scheduled for Saturday, October 5. The referendum is to authorize the town government to spend money which has been granted by the State of Connecticut. The referendum question reads:
“Shall the $49,250,000 special appropriation for architectural and engineering services for the design of a new elementary school in Sandy Hook, demolition of existing school and for the construction of said school and the acquisition of two parcels of land for the purpose of relocating the entrance of said school, said special appropriation to be funded by a grant from the State of Connecticut, be approved.”
Announced on September 20, the following informational meetings have been established:
*Extended Office Hours for First Selectman Pat Llodra in her office at Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street:
Monday, September 23, 5-7 pm;
Saturday, September 28, 1-3 pm;
Sunday, September 29, 2-4pm; and
Monday, September 30, 4-5:30 pm.
*Extended Office Hours for Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr John Reed in his office, Newtown Municipal Center:
Tuesday, September 24, 5-6:30 pm;
Monday, September 30, 7:30-9 pm; and
Tuesday, October 1, 5-7 pm.
*Meetings with Mrs Llodra and Dr John Reed to answer the public’s questions:
Tuesday, September 24, 11am to 1 pm, in the Council Chambers at Newtown Municipal Center;
Monday, September 30, 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road; and
Thursday, October 3, 7-9 pm, in the Conference Room at Newtown Municipal Center.
