(Editor's Note: This article has been updated with Mr McNulty's correct job title.)

Occupation: I’m a principal systems enineer for United Technology Aerospace Systems Company in Danbury. I’ve been there since 1980, when it was Perkin Elmer.

principal systems engineer for United Technology Aerospace Systems Company in Danbury.

Family: My wife Vincenza and I have been married for 34 years. We have two daughters, Julia-Jane and Katie Rose.

Pets: We have a cute little Sheltie named Hayley. She’s about 9 years old now.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We’ve lived in Sandy Hook, in the Botsford section, since 1979.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’ve recently been elected president of the Newtown Lions Club. I’m a ham radio operator, and I have a jazz radio program on the Internet channel PureJazzRadio.com. It airs on Sundays at 6 pm and during the week. We have a vegetable garden, and this has been a bumper crop year for tomatoes.

Do you have a favorite jazz group? The Tierney Sutton Band is very good, and John Coltrane is a real classic. Stacey Kent is another favorite of mine, with her band.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? We really like Italy, and Paris is a lot of fun. We’ve been to each just once. Our trip to Sicily was a whirlwind to visit my wife’s family.

What is the best thing about Newtown? The community is a bunch of wonderful people. And working with the Lions: you can’t find nicer people than that.

What is the biggest change you’ve seen in Newtown? The population has certainly grown since we’ve been here, and there are always the struggles with the school budget. But I think the town is proud of its heritage and tries to keep that small town feel. They’ve done well. I think that’s what attracts people to Newtown.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? My wife has been a great partner and influence in our life together. It’s a team effort. One thing that has influenced me a lot is ham radio. I started doing that as a kid, and it drew me in to engineering.

Do you have a personal philosophy? The great thing about the Lions is that they do what they say: We serve. I guess I try to follow that. It’s quite rewarding giving back to the community.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? I could sit and listen to music all day long; but I’m so busy that doesn’t happen too often. I do treat myself to a day of golf, when I can.
