Berkshire DUI

Police said they responded to a report of an auto having driven off the roadway near 51 Berkshire Road at about 11:46 pm on September 12.

Police said their investigation determined that motorist Oskar Dean, 22, of 14 Osborn Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 Ford Taurus station wagon eastward, lost control of the auto, resulting in it traveling off the westbound road shoulder.

Dean was not injured. Police said they charged Dean with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. After posting $100 bail, Dean was released for a September 25 court appearance, police said.

MV Violations

At about 6:10 pm on September 13, police report they stopped motorist Michael Klimaszewski, 42, of Naugatuck on Hawley Road for driving 45 miles per hour in a nearby posted 25-mph zone.

Police said they charged him with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving with a suspended license.

Klimaszewski was released on $100 bail for a September 27 court appearance, according to police.

Automotive Keys Found

On Friday, September 14, a set of GM-brand automotive keys, which are used to operate a tan 1995 Buick LeSabre, was found on Edmond Road, near its intersection with Schoolhouse Hill Road, according to police.

Attached to the keys are an “Espana” key chain and a Mets lanyard. The keys’ owner may contact police at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, to claim the item.

Juvenile Arrested

Police said that after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest, a 17-year-old boy turned himself over to police at the police station about 12:15 pm on September 15 and was then charged with three offenses in connection with a July 13 motor vehicle collision that occurred near the intersection of Taunton Hill Road and Wedgewood Court.

Police said they arrested the boy on charges of failure to drive to the right on a curve, driving under suspension, and driving without a license.

Following arrest processing, police released the boy on a written promise to appear in court on October 1.

Police did not disclose the boy’s identity because he was under age 18 when the incident occurred.

Speed Violation

According to police, at about 9:17 am on September 14, they stopped motorist Jason Gagner, 24, of Southbury, for driving 46 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone on Swamp Road.

After investigating, police charged Gagner with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving under suspension.

Gagner was released on a written promise to appear in court on September 26.

Queen Street Crash

A two-vehicle accident took place on the northern section of Queen Street near Newtown Shopping Village about 5 pm on September 13, according to police.

Police said motorist Keith McGivern, 44, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2011 Nissan Sentra sedan in the left lane of two northern lanes on Queen Street, made a turn into the right northbound lane and struck a 2007 Honda Pilot SUV driven by Jennifer Schmidt-Shaw, 41, of Bethel.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued McGivern a written warning for making an improper right turn.

Evading Responsibility

An unknown driver, who caused a two-vehicle accident on Toddy Hill Road, near its intersection with Quarry Ridge Road, at about 8:20 pm on September 12, illegally left the scene of the crash, police said.

Police said that a local man was driving a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck that was hauling a trailer southward near 27 Toddy Hill Road, as another motorist was driving a white sedan northward there.

The white sedan then swerved and struck the left side of the trailer, police said. The sedan’s driver, which was described as a late 1990s or early 2000s auto, then drove away from the accident, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the sedan’s driver to contact Officer Matthew Pirhala at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Motorcycle Accident

At about 2 pm on September 10, motorist Barry Samuels, 64, of 14 Elana Lane was driving a 2001 Audi A-4 sedan northward near 151 South Main Street and then slowed for traffic conditions, after which the Audi was struck from behind by northbound motorcyclist Eric Kurtz, 20, of 8 Diamond Drive, who was driving a 1999 Suzuki GSX-R750, according to police.

Kurtz was injured by the impact, police said. Police report they charged Kurtz with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, failure to have automotive insurance, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of a marker plate, and driving without a motorcycle license endorsement. Kurtz was released on $100 bail for a September 24 court appearance, police said.

Botsford Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Swamp Road and Botsford Hill Road about 3:10 pm on September 6.

The accident involved a four-door 2013 Mini Cooper Countryman driven by Pamela Fehrs, 43, of 1 Bristle Lane, and a 2007 BMW 530-XI sedan driven by Jean Pierre Mikhael, 37, of Danbury, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Mikhael a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

South Main Street

Police said that motorist Martha Porubanik, 86, of 4 Lantern Drive was driving a 1991 Toyota Corolla sedan northward on South Main Street at about 2:45 pm on September 11 and then started to make a left turn into the driveway for Plaza South at 266 South Main Street, as motorist Manuel Andre, 65, of Trumbull was driving a 2001 Subaru Legacy station wagon southward on South Main Street.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Porubanik a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at an intersection.

 

Exit 11 DUI

State police report that motorist Miguel Alberto Chavez-Licetti, 25, of Bridgeport was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck eastward on Interstate 84 at about 11:49 pm on September 14, after which he entered the Exit 11 off-ramp.

Chavez-Licetti failed to negotiate a sharp curve to the right on the off-ramp and the truck then drove off the ramp’s left shoulder and rolled over, coming to rest on the interchange’s median, state police said. Chavez-Licetti received a minor injury in the incident, state police said.

After investigating, state police charged him with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and failure to keep to the right on a curve. He was released on $500 nonsurety bail for an October 7 court appearance.

Breach Of Peace

Police said they responded to the Nunnawauk Road area late on the afternoon of September 10 in response to several complaints about a person who was screaming obscenities in public.

Police said that after investigating, they charged Fred Kelley, 49, of 12 Nunnawauk Road with breach of peace.

Police said they released Kelley on a written promise to appear on September 26 in Danbury Superior Court.

Plaza South

At about 7 pm on September 14, police responded to the Plaza South shopping center parking lot at 266 South Main Street to investigate an auto accident.

In that incident, motorist Michael Goeller, 53, of Easton, who was driving a 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-350 minivan, struck a 2008 Toyota Sienna minivan driven by Elizabeth Keating, 59, of 4 Short Hill Road, police report.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Blue Colony Accident

Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident at the Blue Colony Diner parking lot at 66 Church Hill Road at about 2:40 pm on September 8.

In that incident, motorist Kenneth Williams, 72, of Danbury, who was driving a 1991 Nissan pickup truck, struck a 2013 Subaru Outback station wagon driven by Karen Clark, 57, of Putney, Vermont, police report.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, an 18-year-old woman turned herself over to police at the police station about noon on September 13 and was then charged with failure to respond to an infraction stemming from police having issued her an infraction ticket last April on a charge of illegal possession of alcohol by a minor.

Early on the morning of April 19, police responded to a report of suspicious activity behind houses near the intersection of Farmery Lane and Great Ring Road. After investigating, police issued the alcohol infraction to the accused person, but because she did not either pay a $136 fine or plead not guilty to the violation, the court issued a warrant for her arrest.

Police said that the person was 17 years old, and thus classified as a “juvenile,” when the infraction was issued in April, so they did not disclose her identity.

After posting $136 bail, the woman was released for a September 26 court appearance to answer the charge, police said.

Sandy Hook Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection on Church Hill Road, Washington Avenue, Riverside Road, and Glen Road about 9:38 am on September 12.

In that incident, motorist Claudia Dene, 47, of 110 Lakeview Terrace was driving a 2010 Subaru Impreza sedan eastward on Church Hill Road, as motorist Francisco Middleton, 63, of 4 Rose Lane was driving a 1999 Pontiac sedan northward on Washington Avenue, police said.

Dene then drove into the intersection while her traffic signal was red, resulting in a collision between the Subaru and Pontiac, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Dene an infraction for failure to obey a traffic control signal.

Berkshire Road

A two-vehicle collision happened on Berkshire Road near its intersection with Wasserman Way about 5:30 pm on September 17, police said. In that incident, both vehicles were traveling northward on Berkshire Road.

Motorist Conor Thompson, 18, of Glastonbury, who was driving a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria sedan, struck the rear end of a 1998 Toyota Camry sedan driven by Joseph Labadia, 26, of New Milford, police said.

There were no injuries. Thompson received a written warning for following too closely, according to police.

Honda Vs Pole

Motorist John Lardie, 51, of 2 Abbey Lane was driving a 2012 Honda Civic sedan near 136 South Main Street about 5:30 pm on September 17, when the vehicle veered out of the northbound lane and then struck a utility police, police report.

Ambulance volunteers treated Lardie at the scene, police said. Police said they issued Lardie an infraction for making a restricted turn.

DUI Charge

Police said they received a report about 12:08 am on September 19 concerning a vehicle that was being driven erratically on Mt Pleasant Road, so they responded to the area near the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Diamond Drive and saw a Nissan auto traveling eastward in the westbound lane with its headlamps off.

Police said they stopped motorist Yvonne Petrella, 54, of 68 Appleblossom Lane to investigate, after which they charged her with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and failure to illuminate headlamps.

After processing, Petrella was released on $100 bail for an October 3 court appearance, police said.
