The Search For Madame Bovinity
The Search For Madame Bovinity
Newtown Artists on the Moo-ve hasnât given up total hope for its missing creation just yet.
This mysterious group of Newtown-based artists was responsible for the cow sculpture that amused and entertained Newtown residents for two weekends earlier this month. A near-life-size sculpture of a pink cow, named Madame Bovinity, debuted on one of the park benches outside Edmond Town Hall over Labor Day weekend. A note left with the sculpture informed those who visited the Madame that she had been created simply for the enjoyment of the people of Newtown, and she was going to be moving from place to place for the foreseeable future.
Unfortunately, less than 24 hours after Madame Bovinity made her second appearance the weekend of September 9-10 â on one of the benches between Fleet Bank and My Place Restaurant â she disappeared without a trace. All that was left behind was the metal cable that had been holding her to her bench, and that had been cut.
Now the search is on, either for the cow sculpture or for information concerning what happened to her. Fliers have been posted around town, and an appeal was received at the offices of The Bee this week to let people know that Newtown Artists on the Moo-ve have created a Web site (www.geocities.com/madame_bovinity) in the hopes that anyone who knows what happened to their sculpture will contact the artistsâ group.
A photo of the cow appears on the Web site for anyone who might not be sure what a pink papier maché cow looks like, and e-mail is forwarded directly from the site to the artists. A monetary reward is being offered by the group for the lead information that gets the cow back into the hands of its owners.
