To the Editor:

I am writing to express my enthusiastic support for Michelle Embree Ku, a candidate for the Connecticut State Representative for the 106th District. Michelle is not only incredibly smart, but she also possesses the integrity and drive needed to represent Newtown effectively in Hartford. As a member of the majority party, Michelle will ensure that Newtown has a stronger, more influential voice at the state level.

Having lived in Newtown for 15 years, Michelle has shown deep commitment to our community. Her impressive career in science is complemented by her extensive experience in public service. She has been elected to multiple leadership roles, including chair of the Board of Education, member of the Legislative Council, and currently serves on the Board of Selectmen. This wealth of experience makes her uniquely qualified to address the pressing issues facing our town and state.

Michelle has consistently demonstrated her dedication to bipartisan collaboration and problem-solving, particularly on issues like education, public health, and gun violence prevention. Following the tragic events of December 14, 2012, she became a leading advocate for gun violence prevention and community recovery. Her leadership extended beyond Newtown, including chairing the CT Legislature’s Task Force on Life-Threatening Food Allergies and working to ensure safe student returns to classrooms post-COVID.

Throughout her twelve years of service to Newtown, Michelle has been an effective voice for issues that matter to all of us. From advocating for healthier school start times to ensuring school safety and security, her efforts have consistently delivered results. What’s more, she has proven time and again that she can present budgets that pass public approval, showing her fiscal responsibility.

Michelle’s platform is clear: She will fight for a healthcare system that serves us all, advocate for better education funding and resources, and work to protect our environment through smart development and green initiatives. She’s committed to addressing the housing crisis and ensuring that Newtown remains an inclusive, livable community.

For all these reasons and more, I strongly encourage my fellow Newtown residents to support Michelle in her bid for State Representative. She is the leader we need in Hartford to give our town a meaningful voice.
