Night Walkers
Night Walkers
To the Editor
The Newtown Night Walkers will be walking in The Light The Night fundraiser on Friday, October 3, at Fairfield beach. This is an event of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to raise funds to find the cure for blood-related cancers. Last year our team of about 50 walkers raised over $6,500! We would like to take this opportunity to thank Jeff Smith of A Sign Depot on South Main Street. Our red-lettered banner even has Newtownâs rooster.
There are and have been a number of Newtowners, children and adults, who were diagnosed with either leukemia or lymphoma. Our son, Greg, was diagnosed with leukemia when he was just 16 years old. After a heroic fight and transplant, he passed away in October 2000.
Letâs get together and walk for the cure. There will be food provided by American Steakhouse, drinks by SoBe, as well as clowns, a deejay, WICC radio, and Channel 12. Children are welcome. The two-mile walk is around the historic district of Fairfield. If you would like to register for the walk the website is www.lightthenight.org/fct or call Beth Montoya, captain, at 270-8096 or Ginny Chion at 426-0851. If you are unable to walk, and would like to sponsor a walker call either Beth or me at the above numbers.
Once again we will prove that it is nicer in Newtown.
Sincerely,
Ginny Chion
