The Sheluck Campaign
Republican candidate for first selectman Bill Sheluck greeted Congresswoman Nancy Johnson upon her arrival at a fundraising event at the Sheluck home on Sunday attended by more than 100 supporters. Mrs Johnson addressed the gathering noting how unique it is to have an individual with Bill Sheluckâs business experience running for local office. She stressed how beneficial it will be for Newtown that Bill can bring his business savvy and technological knowledge to town government.
Also in attendance were State Representatives Julia Wasserman and DebraLee Hovey as well as Bill Brimmer, Republican candidate for the Board of Selectmen, and Republican candidates for the Legislative Council and various boards and commissions.
Mr Sheluck addressed the assembled guests, asserting that the absence of leadership in Newtown has cost taxpayers millions of dollars. âOur failure to retain major commercial taxpayers and attract new business to Newtown has placed an undue burden on Newtown taxpayers. In addition, the failure to aggressively pursue open space grants from the State of Connecticut is a direct result of poor planning and the lack of management of our most precious asset ââ land.â
The candidate thanked his guests for their enthusiasm, energy, and excitement in support of his candidacy.
