Elaine Stewart

Elaine M. (Anderson) Stewart, age 79, of Shelton, formerly of Bridgeport, died on September 13, at Bridgeport Hospital after a long illness.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Ernest C. Stewart; four beloved sons, Karl P. Stewart of Newtown, Richard L. Stewart of Naugatuck, Michael V. Stewart of Norwalk, and Dave E. Stewart of Shelton; two beloved daughters, Karen M. Riccio of Shelton and Kim C. Stewart of Shelton; six grandchildren; three nieces; and one nephew. She was predeceased by a daughter, Susan L. Stewart.

Mrs Stewart was a retired registered nurse. She was born in Bridgeport and was a lifelong area resident. She was a 2nd lieutenant in the Army and a nurse during World War II, and was a graduate of the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing. She was a devoted Christian, an avid quilter, animal lover, gourmet cook, and gardener. Mrs Stewart was an excellent scrabble player and she loved fishing and the outdoors. She was also a snappy dresser with a wonderful sense of humor and the patience of a saint.

The funeral was held September 17 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Trumbull. Burial was in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
