Orienteering Meet For All Levels

EASTON — Western Connecticut Orienteering Club will host its next meet on Saturday, September 29, at Trout Brook Valley on Bradley Road. Registration begins at 10 am, with the start at 11. Cost is $5 per person.

Joe Brautigam of Bethel will set up the event. Participants will use an orienteering map and compass to find their way across the terrain, seeking orange and white flags at various land features. The features are marked on the map and act as checkpoints along the course.

Participants decide on their route to each feature and punch a score card to confirm finding the flag.

In orienteering as a competition, the winner punches all the flags in the shortest time. At Trout Brook Valley, competitors will find as many controls as possible within two hours.
