Volunteer Nedded At Kellogg Center

DERBY — Due to the wide range of programs offered at the Kellogg Environmental Center and Osborne Homestead Museum, there are a number of interesting volunteer opportunities available for people of all ages.

A volunteer open house will take place on Wednesday, October 18, from 6 to 8 pm, to introduce people to the volunteer program. People with interests in natural history, local history, gardening, teaching, antiques, birding, or environmental issues are encouraged to attend.

The Kellogg volunteer program will offer monthly volunteer training sessions that cover a variety of interesting topics on natural and cultural history. Volunteers can participate in activities such as museum tour guides, researchers, nature walk leaders, program assistants, or office assistants.

Operated by the Department of Environmental Protection, the Kellogg Environmental center offers environmental education programs for adults, families, teachers, and students. The Osborne Homestead Museum provides tours of the historic home as well as offering programs on cultural history. Both facilities are located on the Kellogg Estate, which is landscaped with formal flower gardens, flowering trees, and wildlife plantings.

To register for the volunteer open house, call the Kellogg Environmental Center at 203/734-2513. The Kellogg Center and Osborne Homestead Museum are at 500 Hawthorne Avenue (Route 34) in Derby.
