Players To Sponsor Drama Workshop For Students

SHERMAN — The Sherman Players, in collaboration with Creative Dramatics Workshop for Children, will present an acting workshop for students ages 10 through 14 beginning October 7 at Sherman Playhouse.

Rachel Barton of New Milford will teach the classes on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 3 pm. The classes will meet the weekends of October 7 through October 29.

Classes will familiarize students with the acting process, leading to a stage performance in a working theater environment. Students will stage a performance for parents and friends on the final day of the workshop.

The workshop will begin with acting basics involving self-expression and interaction with others through theater games. Concentration on body movement, voice projection, character development, scene study and auditioning techniques will be covered. The classes will also touch on the technical aspects of a production involving lighting, sound, set design, costumes, make-up and the work involved backstage.

Rachel Barton has acted in many area community theater productions in New Milford and Brookfield. She made her debut in Sherman as Miss Thorn, the schoolteacher in Ruthless, earlier this season. She is the founder and instructor of the Creative Dramatic Workshop for children in Ridgefield and New Milford.

For more information on the workshop, call Ms Barton directly at 860/354-3535.
