Occupation: I am an orthodontic technician. I have owned my own business, Mouthworks Orthodontic Laboratory, for 16 years. I work out of my home. I graduated from high school in New York State and have had two years of college. I taught myself the business I have.Â
How Long in Newtown: I have lived in Newtown for 19 years. I lived in Owego, N.Y., and as an exchange student in South Africa before moving to Newtown.
Biggest Change Seen in Town: Residential development. I cannot remember when I wasnât turning corners and seeing houses everywhere.
Family: My husband, Ed, and I have been married for 17 years. We have five children: Stephen, 12, Christopher, 9, Jason, 6, Brandon, 5, and Ashley, 2.
Pets: We have two dogs, Blue and Hannah; one cat, Licorice; two iguanas; two guinea pigs; and a tank of fish.
Hobbies: I enjoy knitting and sewing when I have time. I love my flower gardens and fishing. I grew up in Kansas, and my grandparents always took me fishing. I got my husband to do it, and I think he likes it more than I do. We like to take the children fishing. We catch the fish and throw them back.
Favorite Books and Authors: I have no time to read. I read newspapers, and I like a good mystery. I grew up reading Agatha Christie as a child because of Miss Marple. My maiden name is Marple.
Favorite TV Show: I like any of the medical shows, and the Learning Channelâs emergency real life programs. I always wanted to be a doctor or surgeon.
Organizations: I am the co-chairman of the Treadwell Playground Committee. I am also a member of Newtown Soccer and its registrar. Iâm also the vice president of the recreational league they have. I am a member of the Head OâMeadow PTA. Â
Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: The 1988 massive snow storm, and the absolute beauty of looking up Main Street with everything covered with snow and looking so historic. It was absolutely gorgeous. I had a feeling of peace and everything being right with the world.
Favorite Vacation Spot: Florida. We have a time share there. We enjoy fishing in the ocean, swimming in the pool, and walking the beaches and collecting all sorts of wildlife with the kids.
Personal Philosophy: I definitely live by the Golden Rule, and believe in karma. That kind of goes hand-in-hand. In everything I do in life, the kids come first. They are the most important thing in my life. I hope to lead them on the correct path.
