Danbury Hospital Plans Renovations
DANBURY â Danbury Hospital this week announced the beginning of two renovation projects â to make its Tower Building main entrance on Hospital Avenue more accessible, and to prepare its Stroock Building on Locust Avenue for next yearâs opening of the Praxair Cancer Center.
Tower Building main entrance, Hospital Avenue: In addition to the stairway leading from the blue patient parking lot on Hospital Avenue, the hospital will construct an elevator for use by patients and visitors who are disabled, have trouble walking, or have a child in a stroller. The new elevator is expected to take about three months to complete. During construction, stairway access will be maintained.
While there may be some temporary inconvenience during the construction phase, once completed, the elevator will make the Hospital much more accessible for everyone, said Vice President Morris Gross.
Stroock Building, Locust Avenue: The second project will require patrons of the Danbury Pharmacy, located on the first floor of the Hospitalâs Stroock Building, to access the pharmacy through a new, temporary Locust Avenue entrance or the red parking garage, beginning on October 9. Internal access to the pharmacy will be limited for approximately two months. The Stroock Coffee Shop will close on September 21. These areas will be renovated to house the Praxair Cancer Center, which is scheduled to open in spring 2001.
