The Newtown Middle School PTA will hold a paper shredding fundraising event from 9 am to noon on Saturday, September 25, at NMS, 11 Queen Street, rain or shine.

This event is open to everyone, Newtown and surrounding town residents and businesses alike. Cost for the event is $10 for a standard archive box (approximately 15 x 12 x 10 inches). Prices increase $5 per size according to container, cash or check accepted. Make checks out to “NMS PTA.”

NMS PTA First Vice President Jennifer Chaudhary said, “With the pandemic, the PTA has really been hit hard and membership is at its lowest. As a result, we find ourselves in a position of needing to fundraise in order to continue to support the students, teachers, and our school, the way we always have.”

Organizers are working with a secure mobile shredding company. All documents are shred on site. Participants can see documents go into the shredder as they are destroyed. Mobile shredding is a secure and convenient way of having sensitive documents destroyed.

Once the paper shredding is done, 100% of the paper is recycled into other paper products. The NMS PTA will use the proceeds from this event to directly support its students, teachers, and classroom needs. This may include teacher classroom grants, cultural arts programming, and student scholarships, for example.

For more information, e-mail Chaudhary at jenpta@4newtown.com.
