The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Laura Wilk painting in watercolor at its next meeting, on Wednesday, September 23, at 1:30 pm.

This demonstration will take place in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, at 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited, free of charge.

Ms Wilk’s journey as an artist began over 30 years ago, evolving from fiber art to works on paper. She paints primarily in watercolor, with the style of her paintings ranging from a looser wet-in-wet look, to highly representational. Her work is known for its intense color, which is achieved by applying many layers, or glazes, of transparent paint, creating color that is deeply saturated, and glowing with light.

Most of her studies were done at New Haven’s Creative Arts Workshop, although her path started in college with a minor in Art History from NYU. She enjoys teaching and offers watercolor classes at SCAN, as well as in her home studio.

Ms Wilk’s paintings have received many awards and are included in numerous private and corporate collections. Her work was published in Splash 12:  The Best of Watercolor/Celebrating Artistic Vision

Several galleries in Massachusetts, New York and Connecticut have represented Ms Wilk, who is a member of New Haven Paint and Clay Club and Connecticut Watercolor Society.  She is also a Signature Member of New England Watercolor Society and Kent Art Association.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, but additional information is available by calling Ruth Newquist, 203-426-6654.
