The IPN Is You
The IPN Is You
To the Editor:
The IPN is the Independent Party of Newtown. The IPN is you. Think about it.
You donât wake up each morning and say âIâm a Republicanâ or âIâm a Democrat.â Youâre a husband, wife, grandparent, or student. You care for your children. You work every day, practice a trade, or run your own business. You may be in between jobs or balancing a career and family. You may be retired. You live by whatâs right for your family, your friends, your neighbors, and yourself. So do we. Thatâs how we think and live.
The IPN is a new party in Newtown, but itâs ideals are as old as the Constitution and its members are as spirited as the Boston Tea Party. The IPN became a party in 2007 because so many citizens in our town want to make a difference, but realize the current two-party process doesnât represent them, their issues, their concerns or their vision of protecting Newtownâs heritage while maintaining a high standard of education and improving our standards of living.
Like most towns, the local Democrat and Republican committees in Newtown control the election nominating process and decide who will run for local offices. As long as the two-party system allows for real choice in government, debate of the issues, and transparency in policy and operations, the system works.
The IPN was formed because the process in Newtown was broken. Candidates were no longer distinguishable, and in fact in this yearâs election, Democrats and Republicans cross endorsed each otherâs candidates! Apparently they didnât want to give voters a choice.
IPN candidates are motivated to improve on current government. These candidates question the status quo, want to prevent wasteful spending of tax dollars, and develop Newtownâs resources carefully.
The IPN continues to push for long term strategic planning that will allow Newtown to provide for education, municipal buildings, senior and teen facilities and development of Fairfield Hills. Good planning provides for better education, better services and roads that get fixed. Good planning assures the job actually gets done and saves money so we can afford to live here.
How many of you remember when our town bought Fairfield Hills? Are you still wondering what the plan is and when it will be done? How much will it really cost? Many people are thinking the same thing. So is IPN. IPN members are in pursuit of better answers to these questions.
The IPN ran their first candidates in 2007. Four of those candidates won seats in town government. They did so because they came with new ideas and the ambition to see those ideas move forward.
Weâd like to know you better. You need to know us better too. Please visit www.independentpartyofnewtown.com to learn more about IPN and IPN candidates. We think when you do youâll pull the lever independently on November 3rd for many IPN candidates excited to get to work for you.
