Church Hill Collision

Newtown Police report that a three car collision on Church Hill Road at 4:08 pm on September 16 resulted in minor damage to all three vehicles involved, and one driver being charged with an infraction. According to the report, Katherine Smith-Bloxsom, 26, of Mackenzie Circle was exiting the parking area at 62 Church Hill Road in a 2003 Nissan Altima when she was struck by a 2004 Honda Pilot being operated by Po Murray, 42, of Charter Ridge Drive who was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road. The collision then caused the Nissan to collide with a third vehicle, a 2005 Ford Escape being driven by Cathy Conway, 57, who was stopped for traffic at an adjacent intersection. No injuries were reported, and after an investigation, police cited Ms Smith-Bloxsom with failure to grant the right of way.

Under The Influence

On September 15 at 11:39 pm, Newtown Police responded to a report of a vehicle driving erratically on South Main Street. Upon identifying the vehicle police investigated and determined the driver, Kamil Zawisza, 23, of Cindy Circle in Milford was operating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. He was subsequently arrested on that charge, as well as being cited for operating with tinted or darkened windows without the proper permit sticker, and operating with an obscured registration marker. Zawisza posted a $100 cash bond and was later released with an October 1 court date.

Multiple Vehicle Charges

During routine patrol at 8:45 am on September 16, a Newtown officer observed Kimberly Marshall, 56, of Brookbend Road in Fairfield operating her vehicle on Church Hill Road while talking on a hand-held cell phone. After pulling her over, officers discovered her vehicle had not been registered for more than a year, and that Marshall’s license was suspended. She was arrested and charged with the cell phone and motor vehicle violations, as well as failure to surrender her license upon its suspension. She was released on a written promise to appear in Danbury Court on September 30.

Juvenile Domestic Matter

Newtown Police were called to a Philo Curtis Road home at 4:20 pm on September 16, after a report of a domestic incident where a juvenile had struck his father numerous times. Police located the accused hiding in the home, after which he reportedly resisted arrest. The individual was transported to police headquarters and was charged with interfering with an officer and breach of peace, and was released on a promise to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on September 21.

Apparent Brake Failure

At 11:56 am on September 15, Newtown Police responded to the area of 25 Main Street and discovered that a parked 1994 Saab 900 had rolled into the rear bumper of a parked 2000 Ford sedan. While the operator of the offending vehicle stated that the parking brake was set, police issued the individual an infraction for operating with an ineffective braking system.

Minor T-Bone

Newtown Police were called to the intersection of Main Street and School House Hill Road at 6:17 pm on September 11 after a report of a minor collision. Upon investigation it was determined that Wayne Turk, 53, of Chestnut Ridge Road in Armonk, N.Y., who was operating a 2008 Mazda CX9, attempted to turn from Main Street onto the side street. He collided with the passenger door of a 1991 Toyota being operated by Timothy Geary, 48, of Southbury, who was traveling northbound on Main Street. There were no injuries reported and Turk was given a verbal warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Rear Ender

Police reported on September 14 at about 2:04 pm, Brian Cantore, 18, of Horseshoe Ridge in Sandy Hook was operating a 2005 Subaru Impreza on Berkshire Road when he made minor contact with the back of a 2009 Toyota 4X4 being operated by Shannon Zamary, 17, of Concord Ridge, who had slowed for traffic. No injuries were reported, and after a brief investigation, Cantore was issued a written warning for following to closely.
