Children’s Day Scheduled

At Historic Schoolhouse

Newtown Historical Society will host a Children’s Day at The Little Red School House on the grounds of Middle Gate School on Sunday, September 20.

In 1968 the society acquired the school house and relocated the structure from its original site on Toll Gate Hill (now Route 25) to its present location at 7 Cold Spring Road.

The public is invited to visit and tour the building any time between noon and 3 pm. Costumed senior docents will talk about the one-room schoolhouse in Newtown’s history, as well as what life would have been like for a child in the 18th Century. Junior docents will teach Colonial-era games such as Graces, Trundling a Hoop and Blindman’s Bluff.
