Join National September 11 Fund
DANBURY â In response to Tuesdayâs attack on America, a collaboration of United Way, the New York Community Trust, and the Council on Foundations has established a single philanthropic fund, The September 11th Fund, as a collective national effort. The purpose of the fund is to mobilize financial resources to respond to the pressing needs of the victims and their families as well as all those affected by the tragedies.
âLike all Americans, people in Northern Fairfield County are asking, âWhat can I do?â In fact, theyâre helping already,â said John Martocci of Newtown, local United Way campaign chairman. âThrough our annual campaign, which is currently underway, donors make possible the programs and services that strengthen lives, families, and communities year round. Now these same services will help heal the lives shattered by the recent tragedies.â
As a leader in the community, United Way is identifying urgent needs and gaps as well as the most appropriate resources to address them. Every day, and even more so in the wake of this national tragedy, United Ways leverage the helping potential of health and human service agencies, businesses, governmental entities, institutions and individuals to help meet the immediate needs. At the same time, United Ways are addressing long-term solutions to strengthen communities across America.
âIn times of crisis, the pressures on existing services are enormous. To respond to the specific needs caused by the attacks, The September 11th Fund gives everyone a chance to contribute above and beyond their current local charitable support,â said Marty Milkovic, president and CPO of United Way of Northern Fairfield County.
