Health Fair At The Mall

DANBURY — Danbury Hospital will present a “Family Health & Safety Fair” at the Danbury Fair Mall (lower level) on Friday and Saturday, October 5 and 6, from noon to 8 pm both days.

The fair will feature free exhibits, demos, screenings and community health education and information focusing on family health and safety issues, including infant car seat safety, cancer prevention and much, much more.

At the Danbury Hospital “Family Health and Safety Fair” you will learn when and where to obtain a reduced fee breast cancer screening during the month of October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Also, women can find out if they qualify for free screenings through the Connecticut Breast and Cervical Cancer and Early Detection Program at the Praxair Cancer Center, American Cancer Society and Women’s & Children’s Services exhibits.

Mall-goers are encouraged to stop at the Human Resources Career Opportunities and School of Radiologic Technology booths to find out about job opportunities and medial careers at Danbury Hospital/Danbury Health Systems, Inc. Additionally, mall shoppers and community residents will have the opportunity to stop by the Family Footcare, P.C. booth for a diabetic foot and/or general podiatry screening, or at the Marcus Cardiac Rehabilitation Center exhibit for a cardiac risk assessment and blood pressure screening.

Other Danbury Hospital/Danbury Health Systems programs and services represented at the health and safety fair will be the Danbury Visiting Nurse Association. Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, Inc., Pulmonary/Respiratory Services, Sleep Disorders Center and a Trauma Service-Injury Prevention exhibit. For the kids, be sure to stop by the City of Danbury Emergency Medical Services (EMS) area and tour the inside of an EMS vehicle.

The Hospital’s Family Birth Center staff will be available at the two-day event to address questions about newborn and infant care, breastfeeding, formula feeding, the Danbury Hospital Doula program, and to provide help regarding health and wellness information for women who are expecting or planning to have a baby. Danbury Hospital’s Dietary/Nutritional Services staff will be on hand to offer advice and counseling about good nutrition and healthy eating.

Partnering with Danbury Hospital to advance the health and well-being of the people in our community will be the Fairfield County Safe Kids Coalition, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, City of Danbury Health Department  — AIDS Prevention Program and the Interfaith AIDS Ministry.
