Assistance For Displaced Pets

Cassio Kennels is collecting dog and cat food and accessories to assist the animals affected by the September 11 disaster in New York City.

Dog and cat food, both dry and canned, leashes, collars, bedding, bowls, and pails, dog booties and saline solution are needed and will be given to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) for distribution.

Nancy Marble, manager of Cassio Kennels, said the emergency supplies are needed for dogs and cats whose owners have been injured or killed in the disaster; for those who have been displaced from the residential area, and for the search and rescue dogs.

The kennel is located at 173 Mt Pleasant Road (Route 25) in Newtown near the Bethel line. The kennel is open seven days a week from 8:15 am to noon, and from 3 to 6 pm. During other hours, items can be left on the sheltered front porch. For more information call 426-2881 and leave a message on the answering machine.
